What is a Parent Training and Information Center?

Our special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, mandates that each state have at least one Parent Training and Information Centers.  These centers exist to assist parents with many different kinds of resources.  They are people who are parents and who familiar with the special needs of our children.  They offer advocacy trainings to help parents become effective advocates for their children. There is mutual support between parents.  There are resources in their libraries as well as excellent booklets produced by the centers to assist parents. They are there to assist parents in navigating the special education process and to understand the law.  They are invaluable support when you are looking for information, support, or just someone to talk with.  You can find a list of all of the centers at the parent Center, PACER
